I should know better. I have been in the tech industry since 1990 and knows what happens if you don’t take proactive action in securing your backups. But I had gotten so busy with life/work that even though I knew my external drive was on its last legs, I kept pushing it. The aftermath of COVID had left my personal computing infrastructure in a mess. Support people/companies that were there pre-COVID were not longer there post-COVID. I had suffered a number of hardware failures and was just recovering from that. I knew this external drive was due and place an order for a new NAS but I was a week too late. Initially I thought I would just rebuild my files but once I started to think about what I had on that drive, I realize it would take mega years to recover. Google would provide me with a list of potential data recovery services. A reference from a new contact led me to ReStoringData – a known premier service provider. A number of unreturned calls later, I realize they had shut down as well. Fortunately I manage to make contact with some ex-ReStoringData folks who branched out on their own as Safekeep Data Recovery. These folks are experienced and know what they’re doing. They offered a free assessment to see if they can recover the data. And if they feel they can recover the data, they will not charge you until they have fully recovered that data. Overall I found them prompt, courteous and professional. While I hope I don’t need to use them in the future, I also know that if I get into trouble, I know where to start … Thanks for all the help!
